Cycle

Some time in the not-so-far future, someone would get really pissed off with all existing religions and ask the same stupid question, “Why can’t we all just get along?” After trying some twenty three times to rephrase that question in order to get an answer that makes sense, he will decide to set things right by starting his own religion.

He would specify tolerance and peaceful co-existence as the benchmarks of his proposed faith. He would also, as an afterthought add a point about its being essential that the followers of this faith always greet each other with a smile. A token of their benevolence.

News in red

There is something unsettling about the news we see. Why is it all in red? NDTV has for long painted the screen scarlet, but then Aaj Tak went red and Times Now too and also CNN IBN.

Is the reason the traditional Indian one? That of not being gutsy enough to stray from what everyone else has been doing? (Damn, I generalised again. Sorry!) Or is red supposed to be a more newsie colour? I don’t know. It certainly puts me off. I would like to see at least one channel doing it with neat and clean shades (black text on white would be good, even the newsflashes and the tickers are red for God’s sake!).

Sharing videos

Oh mighty lazyweb, riddle me this. I like to frame people with my nifty little Nokia 3220 video camphone. Though it is one thing to easily MMS my JPEGs to the web and share the photos with the world, doing the same to videos taken is till something of a mystery to me.

The phone stores those files with a .amr extension. I have no clue what application a computer would require to be able to play them. Anyone who has a clue can share it with me please. I like clues. They make life worth living.

On Samit’s second

This is not a review of The Manticore’s Secret. Here… take a spoiler warning in any case. I can imagine Samit Basu sitting in his dark tower and doing his thing (bwahaha or mwahaha as his mood demands). The book was good. I am sincere in my appreciation. As sequels go, I never expect much from continuing tales, but TMS was good.

But curse the author for almost killing me in the end. Still no Maya !!??

On eating

No really. Doesn’t the traditional way of doing it have something to do with chewing and swallowing? Who on Mars cares how you get to that stage? Personally, I have never been one of the masters of soo-aaa-vve. Forget about clean and mess-free handling of the spoon, fork, chopsticks, knives (and god knows what else they put next to the food to see what you can manage with your hands), getting those oversized burgers to fit in my mouth without slurping and splattering their ill-packed innards all over my civilized company is challenge enough.
