He walks!

Rohan Mishra wasn’t entirely sure he liked Holi. First of all, he didn’t seem to find the idea of people rubbing his face amusing. People pinched his face all the time and it had ceased to be funny long ago. Secondly, almost everyone he knew suddenly started looking like Daffy Duck. That wasn’t funny either.

Thankfully, mummy was equally against people rubbing chemicals on his face. So he got to sit in the balcony and watch hordes and hordes of Daffy Ducks march by, shouting, singing, fighting, ripping each others clothes off and doing things of a generally barbaric nature that Rohan liked to see. Some even waved to him and yelled ‘Golu’ at him but he didn’t recognise them.

Well into the afternoon, after the last pink cow and blue dog had passed, Rohan decided he wanted to eat. He got off the chair and stood there thinking whether to go to mummy in the neighbour’s house or try and open the refrigerator.

Then he realised… he was standing!

“It’s now or never,” he dropped his little yellow whistle. Two steps took him to the doorway to the bedroom. He stopped for breath. He wished Disha were watching from her balcony but was afraid to turn.

He held on to the wall and jumped the door step, then continued towards the bed. If anything went wrong and he tripped or something, he figured he could land on the cushion.

The outer door closed - mummy had returned. He involuntarily turned and regretted the action on his way down to the hard floor.

Later that day, after much balm on the bumb on his forehead, Disha came and rubbed some green slime on his cheek. Rohan thought maybe she had seen him walking. She couldn’t possibly have seen him fall inside the house. But he did cry out rather loudly when it happened.

Darn! Why did life have to be full of so many considerations?

  1. Pretty cool as usual, but the next one, the hero, well… tis not my place to comment on such things when I’m guilty of far, far worse…

Meanwhile, have you seen the latest on my blog? It’s good fun! It’s the Hedgehog Song!

  2. Golu walks!!! *Clap clap
Sathe: Stop feeling so good about yourself :p

  3. oh dear… he’s walking already… soon he’ll be all grown up, ready to get married & we’ll still be listening to the voice in his head. Excellent, am getting addicted to Rohan Mishra. Keep it coming :)

  4. Don’t be a cynic. It’s possible to not grow up. Look at me. If you don’t want to, you won’t. As simple as that. :)
