Asurs and the Naag

“We are now officially lost!” said Andhak as he brushed the dirt off his robes. “This is highly unbecoming of them. Why couldn’t the elders just do it the easy way?”
“I am sure they had their reasons.” Said Arindh from behind him. “And I suggest you keep your whining down. You are getting the Naag worked up.”
Even as Arindh said this, Andhak saw the Naag getting restless. He had already started running and leaping around, licking the air with his forked tongue and looking stupidly around. Andhak tried to catch his gaze so he could signal him down from the tree he was currently perched on, still human in form. Very few Naags he had met in his hundreds of years as an Asur diplomat had names he could pronounce. And he had learnt it was best not to speak tongues if he couldn’t do justice to the accent.
“What place is this?” He asked aloud.
“The mortals call it an overbridge.” Said Kulaksh, leader of the three guards and their guide. He then added, “We are under it.”
“Where is this school we were to seek out?” Demanded Andhak.
“Close.” Arindh said. “But waiting till later might save us some precious magic. It is cold and the mortals will retire soon. The fog will shield us well. It is getting thicker as we speak.”
“I thought the fog was supposed to save us magic.” Andhak said.
“That is hardly an excuse to let our guard fall and invite the Devas’ intrusion.” Arindh said. He was sounding tired now. Andhak decided to let it be. Though he could imagine how utterly idiotic a Deva would have to be to interrupt them, he could also swear that he knew certain Devas who were just the type. The last thing he wanted was a conflict at this stage of the awakening.
