Spam, and then…

mypajama.com is all about storytelling. Stories and essays are published at an alarmingly infrequent rate. Subscribe with RSS or via email.

Hmmm… Let’s see. I got a comment on the previous to previous post from a certain someone I knew in Chennai. I deleted it because it was off-topic. He commented however, as an employee of a dotcom that features and encourages creative writing. He was wondering if their site could have a parallel version of mypajama.com running on their servers. I had my reasons so I said no (I mailed him back because he was decent in his comment and had requested for a reply.) and forgot about it.

This day, I ping some blogs on my reading list and find some mighty annoyed posts. Apparently, not everyone takes an occasional off-topic comment (Ok, fine. Spam if you like.) lightly. Chandru, for one, was mighty pissed. I admit mypajama.com is still an infant and perhaps the others are only too relieved to finally find a spammer who is actually visible. They get more hits, more comments, more spam and are generally more hassled.

Here’s my point. The said spammer in question, I am sure, doesn’t like being called a spammer more than anyone else would. He made a mistake yes. The mistake is aggravated by the fact that he was pushing a product. Read another moderate post by Charu.

What he should have done is looked for ‘Contact Me’ links on blogs. There’s one right here on this page. If he couldn’t find one, he should have assumed the blogger doesn’t want to be contacted. Bloggers generally treat their blogs like their homes. Places where they strut their stuff and invite people to talk. They also tend to quickly kick out people who don’t behave. Its the blogger nature.

But I think we bay for blood too often. C’mon people! Let it go. Take a deep breath and go do something to take your mind off this. Blog some poetry.

It’s really no big deal. The said spammer is a blogger too. A regular and enthu one too. He will learn to be more careful in the future am sure.

  1. Dude,
It’s not the first time this is happening. He has been doing this on a lot of blogs, and on a lot of posts. We’ve warned him a couple of times before - Chenthil, another of his “victims” has had this happen to him quite a few times and had mailed him, asking him to lay off. Yet he persists.

  2. I didn’t know that. Seriously. That sucks. I hope he pays attention to the warnings.

  3. “But I think we bay for blood too often.” - oh yes! and much too easily and for the silliest things…
